Full Ford Focus Range Review

Ford have dominated the market for years and with the Focus, they are the third bestselling car in the UK right now. The top being the Ford Fiesta and second being the Vauxhall Corsa. Globally the Ford Focus is the 4th bestselling car. This is easy to understand because the Focus is a great, family sized hatchback that is reliable and depending upon the model, a fast, fun car to drive. There are a variety of different Ford Focus’s including Focus Estate, Focus ST and Focus RS.

Ford Focus Hatchback

Ford Focus has been the main family hatchback in the Ford range for years now and has in recent years come to dominate its own class. There are a variety of different petrol and diesel engines available and each will cover whatever you are looking for as a driver, even a slightly less sporty model than the ST and the RS.

When it comes to the interior, the Focus has a classic look that has recently been refreshed in order to make it feel comfortable and safe. The dashboard is made out of high quality materials and plastics and has well set out controls. The driving position is perfect and visibility is also excellent, allowing you to see so much without anything getting in your way.

When it comes to space in the Focus, there is plenty in the front and adequate amounts in the rear allowing for five adults to be sat comfortably. When it comes to boot capacity, the normal Focus model offers an initial 316-litre, however if you drop those rear seats, it increases to a very impressive 1,262-litres.

When it comes to the basic model of the Focus, you get a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine delivering 85bhp. It can accelerate from 0-60 in 14.9 seconds and an overall top speed of 106 MPH. Obviously the models improve throughout the range until you hit the ST and RS models. When it comes to fuel economy, the Focus offers a combined fuel economy of 47.9 mpg. Ford Focus is an excellent hatchback for both the city and the long journeys, an all-round belter.

Ford Focus Estate

The biggest differences between the normal Focus and the Focus Estate is space, boot capacity and the base model for the Estate is statistically higher than the base model of the Focus. The main reason to get a Focus Estate is the extra boot space available. With the rear seats up, the Estate’s boot has a 480-litre capacity, but when the seats are dropped, it increases up to 1,500-litres. That extra boot space can be extremely helpful, especially if you regularly need that much space in your personal or professional life.

The base Focus Estate model is a four-cylinder, 1.6-litre petrol engine with a manual gearbox, very similar to the hatchback edition. That engine develops a decent 105 bhp that produces 116 MPH. It can accelerate from 0-60 in 12.5 seconds. Fuel economy, might not be a big concern, however the Focus Estate delivers a combined economy of 47.1 mpg, urban economy of 34 mpg and an extra urban economy of 60 mpg.

There is a great range of engines available for the Focus Estate.

Ford Focus ST

Ford offers two hot hatchback versions of the Ford Focus and the ST is the first in the line-up, thanks to its own range of fast engines. When it comes to the interior, there isn’t much of a difference in space than the normal Focus. However, the seats are replaced with sports Recaro seats that are far more supportive, which you’d expect to come with the increase power and speed of the car. The dashboard and front interior is very similar, if a little more jazzed up.

When it comes to the fastest Ford Focus ST model, you are looking at the ST-3 Navigation, which comes with a four-cylinder turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol engine. It throws out a very impressive 250 bhp that allows it to race from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. It has a top speed of 154 mph, making it perfectly eligible to take on its more expensive German rivals.

It also comes with privacy glass, automatic headlights, automatic rain sensing wipers, automatic dimming rear view mirror, adaptive front lighting system and heated windscreen & heated washer jets to ensure you are safe and have visibility in those winter months.

Ford Focus RS

The new Ford Focus RS has launched and it has created quite a stir amongst car reviewers and critics. It has taken the hot hatchback throne and intends to keep it.

The RS comes with a brand new four-wheel drive system that allows the car, thanks to high-tech mechanics and electronics, to slide and drift far easier than it used to. It is an easy match for any of its German rivals for a significantly lower price.

The RS has a four-cylinder 2.30-litre petrol engine that pumps out an extremely remarkable 350 bhp. With that power, the RS can accelerate from 0-60 in 5 seconds and has a top speed of 165 MPH. For a car with such power and speed, you’d expect terrible fuel economy, however the Ford Focus RS offers great speed, power and fun whilst developing 37 mpg. This makes the RS a fun to drive, every day car.
