Junk in the trunk: 11 suitcases in a Skoda

Becoming a carpool for your kids, their clan of classmates, and not to mention the demanding family pet?

For breaks away, by-the-lake picnics, or days out at the park, if there’s one thing we all know that a family wagon needs for sure, that’s: SPACE.

Without that, there would be no leeway for the luggage, picnic blankets or even passengers for that matter!

The exact spec of the car and the features that you require will depend on the size of your family – both present and prospective – and how high-maintenance the people in your life are when it comes to being able to stretch their legs.

Skoda has come a long way since selling bicycles, ushering in concepts that are perfect for the whole family to make sure that no-one is left behind Home Alone style.

Below, we pick out three roomy cars that are leading the way for storage space, and for those fidgets who are hitching a lift:

 1.The Skoda Octavia

As winner of the What Car? Family Car of the Year award last year, this safe and reliable lobby boy has enough space in the boot to bung in 11 sizeable suitcases, which makes it ideal for airport journeys.

If you’re running ‘fashionably late’ – hopefully not for your flight! – but for a visit to your folks’ house for tea, then you can connect your phone up via hands-free to contact them. There’s a convenient holder for your mobile phone as well, which is a must with how much we rely on our phones these days.

Drivers of all shapes and sizes can get comfortable with adjustable seating, lumbar support, an armrest, and a soft-touch 3-spoke leather steering wheel. In the back, you get two Isofix child seat fittings, so you can keep your little ones secure while travelling.

  1. The Skoda Kodiaq

The Skoda Kodiaq may jump up in price, but it jumps up in space too, and it’s been named as one of the Best 7-Seater Cars by Auto Express.

Inside, you get a glimmer of the Skoda Superb family car, but with an extra row of seats, which are going to come in handy if you’re planning to carry more than five passengers on a regular basis.

Additional storage can also be beneficial for those who are fond of adventure; folding down the rear seats in the Skoda Kodiaq gives you over 2,000 litres of loading area for a bike, hiking gear or two large Beethovens/big dogs!

  1. Skoda Yeti

The main difference between the two vehicles talked about above and the Skoda Yeti is that the Yeti gets beastly looks – just like the Abominable Snowman it’s named after!

To match these looks, your heightened seat position gives you improved visibility, so you feel like you’re strapped into some sort of adult booster seat – safety first!

Your kids get a good view out of the window too, and there’s a decent amount of legroom for them whilst they feast their eyes on the surrounding farms, grazing animals, and vast countryside.

The boot is a bit smaller than that of the Kodiaq, but that’s because of its compact crossover nature; which makes it less clunky for off-road escapades.
